Program/Department Overview

Overall Function

This Intern will play a vital role in amplifying EDF's message and expanding our reach. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of non-profit communications, including content creation, social media promotion and media outreach. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual with a strong interest in environmental issues. This intern will report to the Senior Comms Director, Global Media and work closely with the AVP, Global Media Unit.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in compiling and updating media contact lists.
  • Provide Social Media support.
  • Create real time updates on current climate legislation for EDF’s Political Affairs and Global Media Unit teams.
  • Contribute to developing our strategic communications plan.
  • Work with the EDF Comms team to provide administrative support.
  • Provide support to the Comms team with ad hoc tasks.
  • Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate degree program and/or demonstrated interest in communications, marketing, journalism, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Coursework in Communications or Environmental Studies required.
  • Experience with Cision platform preferred.
  • Active interest in media, including regularly monitoring news outlets and journalists, preferred
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.

Location

U.S. Remote or hybrid out of an EDF office in Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Boulder, CO, New York, NY, Raleigh, NC, San Francisco, CA, Washington, D.C.

Full-time (35 hr/week)

Compensation

This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $18/hr.
